OUR HISTORY

In 2007, White Rock Concerts was named Canadian Presenter of the Year by the national arts forum, CAPACOA. Since then, repeatedly sold-out, White Rock Concerts has never looked back.

This uniquely successful membership series continues to bring the finest in national and international classical music to the White Rock-South Surrey.

The season 16-17 marked a milestone for White Rock Concerts with the appointment of Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann as Artistic Directors.

The well known Canadian musician and impresario George Zukerman, O.C., O.B.C., who founded the organization in 1956 now becomes Artistic Director Emeritus.

George Zukerman, Founder of the White Rock Concerts Society

In its earliest years, concerts were given in the old Semiahmoo Elementary School on Oxford St. Later, White Rock Concerts moved to the First United Church on Buena Vista, and since 1992 has been resident at the White Rock Baptist Church on 140th St. at 16th Avenue.

Under Mr. Zukerman’s direction the organization presented a dazzling array of distinguished artists and ensembles ranging from Ben Heppner to Isabel Bayrakdarian, from Angela Hewitt to Anton Kuerti, from Tafelmusik to the Victoria Symphony, from the Gryphon Trio to the Juilliard Quartet, from Chanticleer to the Elmer Iseler Singers, from Jens Lindemann to Dame Evelyn Glennie.

The new Artistic Directors, Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann, have honoured and maintained these traditions since presenting their first exciting and innovative season in 2016-2017, continuing to build on George’s legacy while bringing their own new and creative vision to our concert seasons.

Currently, the organization presents a series of six concerts each season. The annual sold-out memberships assure White Rock Concerts’ financial success, without dependence on federal, provincial or municipal grants.

White Rock Concerts is proud to remain a volunteer organization, registered under the Society Act of British Columbia. The organization is a member of the BC Touring Council [BCTC] and The Canadian Arts Presenting Association [CAPACOA].
