Dear members of White Rock Concerts,

It is our delight to welcome you to another season filled with musical and artistic splendour!

The 2025/26 season will showcase a diverse selection of repertoire, from iconic and monumental classical works to the distinct musical colours of specific countries. We will enjoy the artistry of younger Canadian rising stars who are already garnering international recognition, as well as some of our own favourite Vancouver-based ensembles, such as the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and the John Avison Chamber Orchestra.

We hope that you will enjoy the many musical gems offered.

With warmest wishes,

Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann

Cheng2 Duo 3 - vert

Bryan Cheng, cello and Silvie Cheng, piano are siblings born in Ottawa and Tokyo to Chinese parents. The Cheng Squared Duo are proud Canadians who also have musical bases in Berlin and New York City. Bryan is a prize winner of international competitions (most recently the Queen Elizabeth in Geneva). They have performed internationally at acclaimed festivals and in famous concert halls and will bring a programme titled “Unravelling Ravel” with works by de Falla, Ravel, Debussy and Mussorgsky.

An iconic monument of classical music, J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations have delighted and intrigued listeners for centuries. In this performance, Alexander Weimann leads the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in his new arrangement of the Goldberg Variations for a chamber ensemble of winds, strings and harpsichord. Note: There will be a pre-concert chat at 7:15pm with Artistic Director Marcel Bergmann and Alex Weimann.

This concert will feature an arrangement of one of Schubert’s most profound and compelling works, Death and the Maiden (originally for string quartet). Another highlight of the programme is Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis, a richly textured and elaborate piece that remains a beloved audience favourite.

Kevin Chen 1

The Calgary born 20 year old rising star won first prizes at the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv (2023), the Concours de Genève (2022), the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Budapest (2021), and the Hilton Head International Piano Competition (2020). He will present a programme of pianistic fireworks with pieces by Chopin, Liszt and Scriabin.

The Juno award winning piano quartet from Ontario will be delighting the audience with a charming French programme of piano quartets by Fauré and Saint-Saëns along with a couple of shorter Canadian works the group has commissioned. The musicians (pianist Philip Chiu, violinist Elissa Lee, violist Sheila Jaffé and cellist Trey Lee) are ensemble-in-residence at Western University in London.
